The thought of a spa day sounds amazing...but who has time for that?! If you can't escape for a full-day spa experience, make your own right in the comfort of your home. Here are some of our favorite organic spa treatments you can do yourself!
Coffee Body Scrub
This scrub will perk up your skin (and your mind) with fresh coffee grounds and sugar. Combine 2 cups of coarsely ground coffee, 1/2 cup raw sugar or sea salt, and 2-3 tablespoons massage oil. Take a hot shower and gently scrub the mixture onto your skin in circular motions. Rinse and dry off, finishing with a layer of your favorite body moisturizer.
Charcoal Face Mask
Remove impurities in your skin with a mask of activated charcoal. Using a wooden or other non-metal spoon, mix the powder from 4 capsules of activated charcoal, 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay, 1 teaspoon of maca powder, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, and 2-4 drops of essential oil (such as a combination of lemon, rosemary, tea tree, and lavender) in a bowl. Spread a layer on your face and allow to dry (approximately 15-20 minutes). Then rinse with warm water.
Detoxifying Spa Bath
Your own bathroom can be a spa sanctuary with a few lighting tricks and this detoxifying spa bath. Light some relaxing candles, bring in some soft music, and get ready to relax. Add 5-10 drops of essential oil and 2 cups of epsom salts to a bath of hot (but not scalding) water. The temperature should be hot enough that you sweat when submerged. Stay in the bath for 20 minutes and rinse off in the shower. Follow up with a moisturizing body butter.
Whipped Body Butter
The beauty of this butter is that you can add whatever "flavor" you want with a few drops of essential oil. If you're in a holiday mood, add peppermint (2-4 drops max) or add lemon for a light, refreshing scent.
To make the butter base, combine 1/2 cup of coconut oil, 1/2 cup of cocoa butter, and 1/2 cup of shea butter in a pot over low heat, stirring until it melts completely. Remove the pot from heat and mix in 1/2 cup of sweet almond oil, 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil, and a few drops of your essential oil of choice. Thoroughly combine and then chill in your refrigerator for an hour or two. Make sure the mixture is firm but not too hard. Take the chilled mixture out of the refrigerator and use a stand mixer or hand mixer to mix until you get a whipped consistency.
Natural Eye De-Puffing Treatment
Conclude your in-home spa day with an eye de-puffing treatment. Start with thinly sliced cucumbers (yes, they do work!) placed on your eyes. Lay an unopened bag of frozen veggies or some ziploc bags with ice cubes on top of the cucumbers. Let sit for five minutes. Get a good night's sleep and your eyes will be good as new in the morning!
