Check Your Labels

Getting into a routine is tough. Between work, dropping your kids off at school, thinking about dinner and possibly going to the gym if your day allows, we are constantly on-the-go. Building time into your schedule to buy yourself food now seems to be such an inconvenience. And when we do make it to the grocery store, who wants to make a whole day of it? You grab the things that look easy/healthy enough for you and your family, and continue on your way. We’ve created a culture of apathy when it comes to what we put in our bodies and we have the power to stop it.

Start Small

It is unrealistic to throw out everything in your fridge or pantry that isn’t made purely of food or organic ingredients. Start small by replacing one meal a day with a wholesome, homemade meal. Then start upgrading to snacks. Instead of reaching for a bag of potato chips, snack on roasted plantain chips!

Why Are There “Ingredients” in my Food?

All too often, we purchase food – a bag of chips, a container of yogurt, frozen pizza – that contain ingredients in them we don’t even know about. Why would our food be made of anything other than…food? Try gravitating towards food items with the following two things things:

  1. Words you can pronounce
  2. 5-7 real ingredientsStep away from the preservatives!

It may seem daunting at first, particularly when you’re used to a grab-and-go lifestyle, but with time, you’ll find that a diet free of “ingredients” will keep you more satisfied throughout the day.

It Doesn’t Stop with Food

Everything we ingest impacts our system. If you’re going to take the time to read the labels on your mid-afternoon snack, apply that same discipline to your medicine! Genexa is the only certified organic, non-GMO medicine on the market. These aren’t just words – they matter! Your diet isn’t the only thing effecting your insides, so make sure you thoroughly read through that pesky label before you pop any pill.

So the next time you’re perusing the aisles of Trader Joe’s picking up some snacks, or searching your local pharmacy for a healthy, effective cold remedy, we challenge you to check those labels!
